Tantallon, Saskatchewan
Tantallon is a community in Saskatchewan. It is located in the Qu'Appelle Valley about 32 km east of Round Lake (Saskatchewan). The community celebrated its centennial in 2004. The communities school closed due to a lack of students, who are now bused to Esterhazy.
The community was founded in 1904 and takes its name from a homestead (which was named "Tantallon" by Scottish Canadian James Moffat Douglas (former Canadian MP and Senator)), who said this part of the Qu'Appelle Valley reminded him of Tantallon Castle in Scotland.
There are 105 people living in Tantallon and the surrounding area. There are 55 private houses, 51 which are inhabited.
Tantallon has a community CO-OP Store which includes a coffee shop, small grocery store, and Canada Post mail boxes. Also in the town is an ice rink where hockey games are hosted in the winter season. The town also has Silverthreads, where local residents go to enjoy BINGO and card games regularly. The biggest attraction to the town is the Valley View Hotel which features and infamous Thursday Wing Night. Thursdays bring many people to the bar from surrounding towns.
The Qu'Appelle River runs through the town.
